Five Ways Absolute Hygiene Solutions Look After The Environment

Five Ways Absolute Hygiene Solutions Look After The Environment

Today is World Oceans Day and now more than ever we need to look after our environment. It’s held every year to honour, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans.

A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival:

  • They generate most of the oxygen we breatheWOD
  • They help feed us
  • They regulate our climate
  • They clean the water we drink
  • They offer a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • They provide limitless inspiration!

What will you be doing as part of the #WaveForChange? We’re going to reduce our usage of plastic disposable bags and make sure we always pack a reusable bag with us.

Being environmentally friendly is important in business too that’s why we only offer products and services that will have a positive impact on the environment and your sustainability targets.

AHS and the Environment

Firstly, it starts with us. We’re ISO 14001 accredited so we are committed to being environmentally conscious. From choosing our product design, packaging and products to servicing we always consider the environment. In fact, all of our products can be recycled.

Reduce Your Water Usage

Whether you’re a small business or a big company you could be using more water than necessary.

Typically, one urinal, without water management uses 315,000 litres of fresh, drinking water per year.

What does 315,000 litres of water look like?

3939 bath tubs

10 petrol tankers

15,750 water cooler bottles

4848 washing machine cycles

9004 showers

And that is just one urinal – you probably have more!

With an AHS Water Management System it reduces the flushing time to once per hour and even stops completely when the building is unoccupied, meaning your urinal will flush only 13,140 litres of water per annum. That’s saving a massive 301,860 litres of water a year, per one urinal.

Similarly, when people wash their hands the taps may continue running long after your hands have been washed and dried. With a Pushatap we quickly convert your existing tap into a highly efficient delay tap which could save you 85% on your water usage!

This is one of the simplest ways to reduce your carbon footprint.

Efficient Energy Usage

Similarly, buying a good, efficient hand dryer can reduce your carbon emissions. Our AHS Fast Dry and Jet Air save up to 80% on energy, drying your hands in just 10 seconds using as little as 900w.

We also have the Eco-Stream – the world’s most energy efficient dryer, drying your hands in 10 seconds but using 550W.

Waste to Energy

Did you know that 80% of waste collected is landfilled?

This is really detrimental to the environment as the waste is usually left to rot, producing and releasing harmful gases which can contribute to global warming.

However, we do things differently here at AHS – we prefer the Waste To Energy disposal method.

All the waste we collect is incinerated which is recovered by the plant and the steam released is used to heat our local hospital. Any surplus energy goes back to the National Grid.

So if you’re a waste producer, with us you know that your waste will be collected and disposed of safely, correctly and not adding to landfill.

Bag It, Bin It Campaign

We support the Bag It, Bin Campaign promoting responsible disposal of discarded personal products.

It is estimated that 2 billion items of sanitary protection are flushed down British toilets every year. Children, bathers and other beach users regularly come across these items, and to a child, the potential dangers of a syringe needle or used sanitary towel is not always obvious.
